NEW MEMORIAL

Things had changed since the original memorial was erected. Less people visited the Edge. Also we now had green areas in the village so there was a push to have the memorial moved to the village and it was decided to erect a new memorial in Jubilee Gardens on the site of the old Filby engineering works. Due to unexpected access restrictions to the original memorial this could not be done so it was decided to have a new memorial. In 1999 the War Memorials trust donated £250.00 towards the cost. The memorial was produced by Strongs Monumental Masons and was originally to be in grey granite. When it was erected it was ,as today, constructed of Black Marble somehow a mistake was made in the paperwork. It comprises a tapered square obelisk mounted on a larger square Pedestal. On the front of the obelisk is engraved a Latin cross. On the left and back sides of the pedestal are the names of those who fell in the Great War and on the right side are the names of those from the Second World War. On the front of the pedestal is the inscription “For Our Tomorrow They Gave Their Today” also “We will Remember Them”. All the engraving is hi-lighted in Gold. The memorial is surrounded by a low box hedge and railings. Altogether the memorial cost £12,500.00 which was provided by voluntary donations from the people of Kinver and others. The memorial was consecrated on the 10th October 1999 by Rev W.F.R. Batson BA. The music was provided by the band of the Prince of Wales Division.
